On November 30, 2020, Decrypt Studios held their inaugural Crypties Awards Gala in Miami. The awards celebrated the best and brightest in the crypto world and was hosted by Josh Ostrovsky, better known as “The Fat Jewish”. Presenters from a range of crypto projects were present, and statuettes were awarded in nine categories. The night was sponsored by Polygon, Filecoin Foundation, Lamina1, Async, BeetsDAO, The Gold Mask, Gem Set, Breakout, Anonymous, Infinite Objects, Ape Water, Decentralized Pictures, and Vault 721.
The winner of the Metaverse Event of the Year category was People of Crypto’s Metaverse Pride Parade. Simone Berry and Akbar Hamid accepted the Cryptie from presenter Toni Thai Sterrett of Bad Grrls Creative Club. The other nominees in the category were Decentraland’s Metaverse Fashion Week and Heal from The Sandbox and Code Green.
Veteran actor David Bianchi also made an appearance at the Crypties Awards Gala. He spoke to Decrypt’s Jason Nelson right before a public table read for his upcoming drama series “RZR”, which will be distributed through Gala Films. The show is already greenlit and will be set in a dystopian future Los Angeles, with Ethereum and other digital assets as part of the plot. Bianchi also conducted two NFT drops to build engagement from fans.
Tezos co-founder Kathleen Breitman also made an appearance at the Web Summit in 2022. She spoke about how the Tezos blockchain has used a proof-of-stake mechanism since its inception, her admiration for Tendermint, Ethereum and sharding, progressive decentralization, and NFT gaming with Decrypt’s Jason Nelson. She also discussed the importance of decentralization, which allows for transparent, trustless, and censorship-resistant networks.
The Crypties Awards Gala, along with the Web Summit 2022, was a great way to celebrate the world of crypto. It showcased the best of what crypto has to offer, from the award-winning Metaverse Events, to the upcoming Web3 TV series “RZR”, to the innovative use of blockchain technology in the Tezos blockchain. Crypto is here to stay, and these events were a great way to highlight the potential of this emerging technology.
