Anythink Announces Grand Opening Celebration of Huron Street Library

Anythink Huron Street

View of Anythink Huron Street from the Niver Creek Trail, part of City of Thornton's Open Space trail system. The grand opening of the new library is on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010.

On Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, residents of Northglenn, Thornton, Federal Heights and surrounding areas will get their first glimpse of the beautiful new Anythink Huron Street at the regional library’s grand opening celebration. The 25,000-square-foot facility will surprise and delight new and loyal library customers with its unique design and thousands of new materials.

The event’s theme, “A Celebration of Light,” is inspired by the building itself. One of the most striking features of the building are its windows that allow for natural light to pour through the space and offer incredible views of the Niver Creek Trail, part of the City of Thornton’s Open Space trail system.

Festivities for that day will begin at 1 pm with the official ribbon-cutting ceremony; doors open at 1:30 pm. Explore variations on light – from light graffiti to kaleidoscopes – while enjoying wintertime refreshments throughout the day.  Thornton’s own Flute Salad will play in the lobby from 1:30-3 pm. From 2:30-4:30 pm, “Reflections on Light – An Adult Story Time,” will be held by the fireplace. Guests are encouraged to bring written selections on the theme of light to read aloud, and several guest readers will also be participating. Outside, two dancers from Colorado Fire Tribe’s Firemancer will perform while ice sculptor Craig Winter of Aesthetic Ice works on a unique ice creation.

Manick Sorcar, internationally known laser light artist, will perform a spectacular laser light show by the entrance to the children’s area at 4:45 pm, repeating his performance every half hour until 6 pm. Visitors can also see Sorcar’s artwork on display in the community room that day.

I am going to get all the good books!

This was an awesome event -- so good to see so many people from the area and meet so many new friends who will be using this beautiful new library.

I was having a very busy day, but just couldn't drive by without a quick peek. Wow, it surpassed all that I had imagined. It's so bright and roomy, and appears to be extremely well laid out. My only regret was that I couldn't spend more time, but did get a chance to see a laser display. The entrance to the childrens' area has to be seen to be believed!! Great job in planning and building. Thanks so much for a beautiful place to spend many hours of enjoyment and learning, no matter our age.
